Habitat
Living in floodplain and rivers affected by tides. They can also live in swamps.
Distribution
Notopterus chitala are found in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. The distribution area in Indonesia is in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Java.
Food
This fish is a type of carnivorous fish, a predator for smaller fish, shrimp, and frogs.
Reproduction
The fish gonad maturity is at a size of more than 50 cm with an estimated age of more than 3 years. Not all eggs are released during the spawning process which are placed on submerged stems. The peak of the spawning season occurs in the dry season.
