Description
Habitat
Living in swamps, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, rice fields, ditches, up to tidal or brackish water areas. The pH range is between 4-9, with oxygen levels of 3.2-4mg/L.
Distribution
The fish are found in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Thailand, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Indonesia. Distribution areas in Indonesia are Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, Flores, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua.
Food
It is a type of carnivorous fish, which will be a predator for other smaller fish species.
Reproduction
The spawning period of channa striata occurs throughout the year. The peak of spawning period is in the rainy season from February to April. The fecundity of snakehead fish is 3,585-12,880 eggs.
